The importance of a first draft is only overshadowed by the importance of its improvements through the second draft. Through revision you can insure your work is coherent.
Revision doesn't have to be huge, it can be as simple as a spell check or proofing for logical error, or misuse of the wrong words. In an essay using "their" when you meant to use "there" can mean the difference between getting your point across, and looking uneducated in front of your audience.
